David Andersen has extensive experience in
providing strategic Corporate Communications, Public Relations,
Crisis Management, Media Relations, Government Affairs, and Investor
Relations counsel to senior management in support of overall
business objectives.
Most recently, Mr. Andersen was Senior Vice
President of Communications for Charter Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:CHTR),
among the nations largest cable television operating companies,
controlled by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Reporting to the
President and CEO, he maintained overall responsibility for all
internal and external communications as the Company’s first Chief
Communications Officer.
During his time at Charter, Mr. Andersen
maintained overall responsibility for crisis management strategies
throughout investigations by the Department of Justice and the
Securities and Exchange Commission, near bankruptcy, numerous
refinancings, and 17 Shareholder Class Actions. Following
settlements with the DOJ, SEC, and dissident shareholders, he
oversaw the positive repositioning of Charter and its management
with shareholders, Wall Street Analysts, government officials, news
mediums, employees, customers, and the public at large.
Previous to Charter, Mr. Andersen was recruited
to CNBC, a cable and satellite business news programming network, as
Vice President of Global Communications, with overall responsibility
for developing and maintaining a comprehensive communications plan
in support of the network’s overall business objectives.
Before joining CNBC, Mr. Andersen was recruited
to Cox Communications, Inc., another cable television operating
company, as Vice President of Public Affairs, to establish a
Communications Department. As the company’s first Chief
Communications Officer, he effectively positioned Cox among
journalists, public opinion leaders, government officials, and Wall
Street, as a leader among all cable television operating companies.
Mr. Andersen began his career with the General
Motors Corporation Public Relations Staff, initially as a lecturer,
presenting a live, non-commercial science stage show to middle and
senior high school students throughout the United States and Canada
to promote careers in science, engineering, and related vocational
fields. He was a loaned executive to "New Detroit, Inc.," an urban
coalition formed by corporations and businesses in the Metropolitan
Detroit Area following racial unrest there. Mr. Andersen progressed
through GMPR management ranks to Southeast Regional Public Relations
Representative in Atlanta, with responsibility to positively promote
GM and its products with the news media, and a wide range of civic,
business, and government officials in a seven state area in support
of overall business objectives.
A graduate of the University of Kansas with a BS
in Journalism, Mr. Andersen received the Vanguard Award, the cable
television industry’s highest individual honor, for Excellence in
Public Relations, and has been consistently recognized as a leader
among leaders of CablePAC, the cable television industry’s political
action committee. Mr. Andersen was a co-creator of the cable
television industry’s highly successful On Time Guarantee
customer care initiative, and co-founded both the Cable Television
Public Affairs Association, and Cable in the Classroom, a cable
television industry education outreach initiative.
